INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS

FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEMOPOIESIS AND AGING
III COURSE ON ONCOLOGY AND GERIATRICS

Purpose

Hemopoiesis is a well-defined process that influences all other bodily functions and is influenced by a complex, multisystem regulatory process. Thus hemopoiesis afford a unique opportunity to study:

1.   Cellular and molecular mecanisms of aging;

2.   General influences of aging on cellular and molecular mecanisms, particulary those related to hemopoiesis;

The focus of our symposium will include reduction in hemopoietic stem cell reserve and productive ability, change in hemopoietic stroma (especially in the homing capacity), production of hemopoietic growth factors, and quantitative and qualitative influence of inflammatory cytokines on hemopoiesis.

These studies will provide critical information for two areas of aging:

1.   Reversibility of age-related cellular and molecolar changes;

2.   Reversibility of physiologic change of age by improvement in hemopoiesis including hemoglobin concentration and neutrophil response;

3.   Corelation between age, cancer and management of elderly people with cancer.
