is a funded action by the group of MED
countries, partners of CIRCLE ERA-Net.
INTERMED will examine the relationship between climate-change driven temperature increases in the Mediterranean Sea and the direct response by intertidal organisms and communities. Indeed, despite providing extensive ecosystem services and goods and sustaining the well-being and economy of coastal populations throughout the world, intertidal systems are threatened by various human activities and in particular by climate change.
Project activities will include a meta-analytical literature review, simulated scenarios, experimental testing of hypotheses and development of managerial strategies. The experimental part of the project will involve both field and laboratory research, including mesocosm experiments. In addition to basic and applied ecological research on the intertidal zone, INTERMED will examine public attitudes toward climate change impacts and economic ramifications of climate change effects.
Officially launched in November 2008, INTERMED will last until November 2010. |
