Mythos was first issued in Palermo in 1989 under the guidance of Giuseppe Martorana, Professor of History of Religions at the Faculty of Arts, University of Palermo. The journal, published by Giuseppe Sciascia Editore, is now directed by Nicola Cusumano (University of Palermo), Corinne Bonnet (University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès) by Daniela Bonanno (University of Palermo) and Francesco Massa (University of Genève). As international journal, Mythos publishes articles in five languages: Italian, French, English, German and Spanish. The journal’s main purpose is to encourage the discussion and the exchange of ideas and to foster debate among scholars. Each article is preceded by an abstract both in the source language and in English. A bio-bibliographical note also includes the authors’ research interests and main publications. Each contribution proposed to the editorial board is evaluated by a member of the staff of Mythos and an external expert, according to peer review requirements.

Each issue contains:

- Studies in historical-religious topics;

- Studies in methodology and modern historiography: a space devoted to debate on the methodological and epistemological aspects of the discipline.

- Reviews and shorter notices.

The standard format of Mythos is 17x24 cm. and each volume usually consists of 150-200 pages. Mythos is published annually. A collection of Supplements is associated with the journal.
