The seminar examines cognition and knowledge as discursive and embodied matters. Starting with the observation that “psychological” states and processes are on constant display in social interaction, we will examine how participants display and construct understanding, knowing, and learning as socially constituted, occasioned through talk, and deployed for practical purposes.
This seminar will examine how participants in diverse social activities mobilize a wide range of semiotic resources in the production of affective stance and what interactional consequences such exhibits engender.
